Overview

Responsible for leading the Bank’s accounting, financial reporting, fiscal recordkeeping, internal controls over financial reporting, and accounting operations to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information. Oversees the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, management, board, regulatory, and governmental reporting, including financial statements, reconciliations, accruals, and other analyses required to support executive decision-making. Safeguards Bank assets by establishing and maintaining strong control practices, sound accounting policies, and effective processes aligned with GAAP, regulatory expectations, audit requirements, and internal governance standards. Provides strategic financial insight to senior leadership, partners across business lines to support planning and performance management, and leads accounting staff through coaching, development, accountability, and performance management in partnership with Human Resources.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Oversees the Bank’s accounting operations and financial control environment to maintain complete, accurate, and well-supported financial records.
  • Develops, implements, and recommends accounting policies, procedures, practices, and control enhancements that support proper financial governance, segregation of duties, data integrity, and safeguarding of Bank assets.
  • Administers and monitors uniform accounting systems and processes for geneledger, cost accounting, account reconciliations, accruals, expense recognition, and financial statement preparation.
  • Oversees the accounts payable process, vendor payment controls, expense approvals, and related accounting activities to ensure accuracy, timeliness, appropriate documentation, and compliance with Bank policies.
  • Leads the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation and review of financial reports, account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, variance analysis, and supporting schedules.
  • Oversees the preparation of the Bank’s audited financial statements and footnote disclosures with the approprirate internal control structure
  • Oversees the tax accounting function, including the appropriate accounting for current and deferred tax items and overseeing strategies to minimize the Bank’s tax liability
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective internal control structure over financial reporting
  • Coordinates accounting activities with Finance, Treasury, Risk, Operations, business units, auditors, and other stakeholders to ensure consistent reporting, issue resolution, and alignment with Bank priorities.
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, approval standards, and quality assurance practices.
  • Ensures financial, management, regulatory, governmental, and board-level reports are prepared, reviewed, supported, and submitted accurately and timely in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Oversees the annual insurance renewal process, coordinates with the parent company on group umbrella policy renewals, and manages the Bank’s insurance policy application process.
  • Communicates the Bank’s financial condition by collecting, interpreting, validating, and reporting financial data; identifies key trends, risks, exceptions, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinates and supports internal audits, external audits, regulatory examinations, and management responses by providing accurate documentation, resolving findings, and strengthening related processes and controls.
  • Monitors changes in accounting standards, banking regulations, reporting expectations, and internal policies; recommends and implements process updates to maintain compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve accounting systems, reporting tools, workflow efficiency, data quality, automation, and control documentation while maintaining appropriate risk oversight.
  • Oversees the investment operations function, including investment accounting, settlement processing, margin management and foreign exchange wire support.
  • Performs other duties, special projects, reporting requests, and strategic finance initiatives as required or directed by the CFO or executive leadership.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting, financial reporting, or financial management experience, including significant experience in banking or financial services and supervisory responsibility over accounting operations, close processes, internal controls, audit support, and regulatory reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with executive and senior management, communicate complex financial information clearly, and provide strategic financial insight that supports business decisions.
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP, financial statement preparation, accounting operations, general ledger controls, reconciliations, accruals, and financial close processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and judgment skills with the ability to identify trends, investigate variances, resolve issues, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Experience manipulating, validating, and analyzing large data sets, with strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and reporting integrity.
  • Proven experience leading, managing, developing, and holding accountable accounting teams in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence, explain financial concepts, and interact effectively with auditors, regulators, business leaders, and cross-functional partners.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including experience with complex formulas, pivot tables, reconciliations, data analysis, and financial modeling.
  • Proficiency in business software applications, accounting systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and related financial systems.
  • Strong understanding of banking operations, regulatory reporting expectations, internal controls, audit readiness, risk management, and financial governance practices.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to evaluate processes, strengthen controls, streamline workflows, and support technology-enabled reporting enhancements.

 

Certification/Licenses:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other relevant accounting, audit, financial services, or regulatory compliance certification required. 

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in in Business, Accounting, Finance or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
