Overview

The Wholesale Portfolio Management Officer Senior is responsible for the independent management, strategic monitoring, and risk assessment of the Bank's most complex and high-risk commercial loan portfolios. This role includes leading periodic portfolio reviews, analyzing borrower financial performance and industry trends, identifying emerging risks, advising client relationship teams, and ensuring portfolio compliance with credit policies and regulatory guidelines.

 

The Senior Officer serves as a subject matter expert (SME) and exercises significant independent judgment in evaluating credit quality and portfolio risk. This position plays a critical role in protecting the Bank's asset quality, supporting portfolio strategy development, and sustaining the profitability of the wholesale lending portfolio.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage the most complex and high-risk borrower relationships and portfolio structures, exercising expert-level credit judgment.

  • Serve as a lead advisor to Relationship Managers, Underwriters, Credit Officers, and Risk Management teams on portfolio strategy, emerging risks, and credit actions.

  • Conduct advanced analysis of borrower financial performance, market conditions, and industry trends to proactively identify strategic risks across the portfolio.

  • Recommend, design, and support the implementation of portfolio risk mitigation strategies to protect the Bank’s asset quality and profitability.

  • Prepare high-level portfolio reviews, risk assessments, and executive summaries for senior management, credit committees, auditors, and regulators.

  • Lead or actively participate in portfolio management initiatives, regulatory examinations, internal audits, and risk reporting projects.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert in portfolio management standards, credit risk frameworks, and regulatory compliance expectations.

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior officers and analysts, ensuring high standards of portfolio analysis, documentation, and risk management practices.

  • Maintain expert-level accuracy in portfolio documentation, risk system updates, and regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Consistently adhere to all credit, compliance, operational, and regulatory policies, modeling a culture of risk excellence across the organization.

Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of extensive experience managing complex and high-risk wholesale portfolios.
  • Recognized subject matter expert (SME) in wholesale portfolio management, commercial lending practices, credit policy compliance, and risk assessment methodologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex and high-risk borrower portfolios with minimal oversight.

  • Deep knowledge of wholesale banking products, complex loan structures, regulatory requirements, and industry-specific credit risks.

  • Advanced proficiency in analyzing financial statements, market conditions, and portfolio trends to identify strategic risks and recommend appropriate credit actions.

  • Proven ability to serve as a lead advisor to senior management and client relationship teams on portfolio strategy, credit trends, and emerging risk exposures.

  • Strong track record of designing and implementing proactive portfolio risk mitigation strategies to safeguard asset quality and profitability.

  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare executive-level credit reports, portfolio summaries, and risk presentations for senior leadership, credit committees, and regulators.

  • Exceptional verbal communication and collaboration skills; capable of influencing cross-functional teams and advising on complex credit and risk matters.

  • Advanced analytical thinking, strategic problem-solving, and sound judgment with minimal supervision.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with loan servicing or risk management systems required. Ability to lead system or process enhancements is preferred.

  • Strong commitment to data integrity, reporting accuracy, regulatory compliance, and documentation excellence.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.
